2008 Spring Showcase Profiles: Part 9 June 18, 2008
Deonta Jones
High School: Urbana AAU Team: Illinois Elite Class: 2011 Position: Point Guard Height: 5'9" Weight: 162 lbs Notes: An excellent athlete with an
explosive first step. Jones is very
quick, fast, and explosive in the open floor.
He has good court vision and does a nice job of keeping his head up and
getting the ball to the open man. Deonta is good at altering his shot in the air when attacking the rim. He is also a good rebounding guard.
Darren Gray
High School: Urbana AAU Team: Team Illinois Class: 2011 Position: Point Guard Height: 5'3" Weight: 130 lbs Notes: The younger brother of former Chicago Julian and SIU-Edwardsville star,
T.J. Gray. The resemblance in Darren’s and
T.J.’s games are eerily similar. Darren
is diminutive but is also a speedy point guard that pushes the ball and shoots lights out! He gets good elevation and works very hard.
Dominique Warnsley
High School: Warrensburg-Latham AAU Team: Team Illinois Class: 2009 Position: Point Guard / Shooting Guard Height: 6'2" Weight: 160 lbs Notes: A very smooth guard with good skills.
Dominique can knock down long range shots and has good quickness when driving the lane for the short pullup or floater. He doesn’t force much and is also a very good
athlete.
Alex Becker
High School: Olympia AAU Team: Team Illinois Class: 2012 Position: Forward Height: 6'5" Weight: 195 lbs Notes: A strong player that featured perimeter and
interior skills. Becker played strong
and aggressive and was a very rebounder.
He finished well inside and handled it well for his position. He has soft hands and a good frame.
Kenny Smith
High School: Schaumburg AAU Team: Rising Stars Class: 2009 Position: Small Forward Height: 6'5" Weight: 170 lbs Notes: A very long perimeter oriented player with good
athleticism. Smith handles it well for
his size and is a good slasher. He’s
very aggressive offensively though sometimes overly aggressive, resulting in
out of control decisions. However, he
has potential as a prospect.
