THE BEST IN ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RECRUITING!

Iowa Elite Camp Review
by Chris Carpenter
June 5, 2006

This past weekend, Steve Alford and the University of Iowa, hosted their annual Iowa Elite Camp.  There were many of top prospects from all over the nation in attendance including many from the state of Illinois.  Some of the top performances included:

Lewis Jackson, 5’8” PG, JR, Decatur Eisenhower – Lewis displayed his quickness and speed throughout the course of the camp.  He has really improved his shot and was leading the tournament in scoring until an ankle injury the second day.  Though hurt, Lewis came back in the last game and played lights out.

Dion Dixon, 6’3” SG, JR, Chicago Crane Tech – Dixon was hitting from all cylinders this past weekend.  He shot lights out and led his team to four victories.  Dion showed that he can handle the ball and can get to the cup well.  He is a solid athlete and was loved by all the coaches on the Iowa staff.

Jeremy Robinson, 6’8” PF, JR, Decatur Eisenhower – Robinson played well in spurts throughout the tournament.  He has a bevy of post moves and finishes well around the basket.  He’s a good athlete and showed a bit of versatility as he pushed the ball on the break a few times.  Certainly a top five player in his class.

Brandon Dunson, 6’3” PG, SR, Bloomington Central Catholic – Dunson’s athleticism was on display at all times as he led the tournament in dunks.  He handled the ball well and blocked a lot of shots proving himself as one of the elite players in the class of 2007.

Kevin Woods, 6’2” PG, SR, Chicago Leo – Kevin showed the ability to play both the point and scoring guard.  He demonstrated his athleticism with some monstrous dunks and also put on a show with his court vision.

Sean Scott, 5’7” PG, SR, Chicago Farragut – The quickness and speed of this guard was certainly on display this weekend.  Scott is a floor general that pushes the ball as well as anyone in the state and knows how to lead a team.  He is strong with a solid handle and is also a solid defender.  He got to the lane many times and played very aggressive.

Isaiah Williams, 5’11” PG, JR, Chicago Farragut – Williams shot the ball well from the outside.  He handled the ball well and played some solid defense but showed more of a scorer’s mentality than one of a point guard.

Michael Dunigan, 6’9” C, JR, Chicago Farragut – Like Robinson, Dunigan played in spurts.  At times he was aggressive on the block on both ends of the floor, as he tried to dunk everything he got, but at other times, he played soft and timid.  He proved that he has a solid mid range jumpshot but also showed that he needs to add strength.

Michael Horton, 5’10” PG, SR, Chicago Von Steuben – Horton led his team well.  He proved himself as a true point guard as he looked to push the ball and make plays.  Michael was good on the defensive end and hit a lot of midrange jumpshots on Day 1 of the camp.

Other top prospects from the state of Illinois in attendance included Brandon McGee, Tyler Storm, Josh Fowler (a 6’6” freshman SF from Chicago Crane Tech), and Darius Fields (who injured himself before the first games started).

Top national prospects in attendance included, Dominique Buckley, Bryan Brown, Jarryd Cole, Muhammed Conteh, Emmanuel Negedu, Mick Markovich, Kyle Pressley, Jordan Printy, Mason Plumlee, Tyler Zeller, and Iowa commits-Dairese Gary, Beas Hamga, and Matt Gatens.
