Chicago Leo Looking to be a Favorite Next Season
Noah Cannon and his Lions crew have pretty much solidified their position in the top ten Class AA preseason team rankings for the 2006-2007 school season. Chicago Leo will return three of five starters in 6'7" senior-Diante Gaskew, 6'2" senior guard-Kevin Woods, and 6'1" senior wing-Tony Topps. Along with them look for 6'7" senior-Steve Gross, 6'1" senior point guard-Mario Allen, and 5'10" sophomore-James Pointer, to make big impacts. Pointer, who was a part-time starter last season as a freshman, will be looked upon as a leader on the floor due to the fact that, as of right now, he is the leading candidate to start point guard for the Lions. This past weekend, Leo participated in the Purdue Team Camp. In the championship game, the Lions blew past Deerfield High School to take the crown. They had great contributions from their five senior leaders. Gaskew, Woods, Allen, and Gross all participate on the AAU circuit with the Chicago Mixers. Woods also competes with the Midwest Storm. Both Pointer and Topps are in the MeanStreets program though Tony is branched with Express, who is led by senior superstar-Derrick Rose. Continue to search for Chicago Leo during the month of June as they should have continued success.
