Unheralded Prospects at Midwest Showdown
This past weekend, MidStateHoops.com was able to catch a few games at the Midwest Showdown. There were many top prospects in attends that we watched including Justin Bocot, Breland McKnight, D'mitri Riggs, Stefon Carson, Brandon Dunson, Kevin Woods, Jordan Prosser, Diante Gaskew, etc. However, the list of players below is a group that we witnessed this past weekend that we feel played well though they don't get the credit. All the following players attend Illinois-based high schools. Mario Allen 511 PG Jr. Chicago Mixers A quick guard with a tight handle on the ball. Allen shoots the ball very well from the perimeter. In the couple games we saw him, he had to rain more than seven threes in total on less than ten attempts. Attends Chicago Leo High School. Cortez Augusta 62 PG So. Rity Rams Augusta is a big guard that can score and create well for teammates. He is extremely quick and is a very solid ball handler. On the defensive end, Cortez is good while on the ball and knows how to strip a ball hander. Attends Peoria Woodruff. Tywon Howard 61 SG Fr. Team Illinois Proved himself as one of the elite players in the class of 2009. Howard outplayed everyone on a top level team which included both Dmitri Riggs and Jordan Prosser. He plays an aggressive style, can shoot the ball, can handle the ball, is strong, can finish, and is a very solid defender. Attends Bloomington High School. Karl Madison 511 SG 8th St. Louis Eagles 14U One of the top five incoming freshmen in the state. Madisons team played up on the 15U, and he was anything but short of impressive. Karl is very athletic and gets to the basket well. He is strong, athletic, and rebounds well for his position. His ball handling skills are good for his age and if he continues to blossom at this rate, you are looking at your next high major player out of the state of Illinois. Will attend Springfield Southeast. Charlie Tokar 66 F Jr. TABA A hustler that is very good around the basket. Tokar is a strong rebounder and finishes very well. He is capable of hitting the 15 footer and with added perimeter skills, Charlie could possibly be a division one prospect. Attends Morgan Park Academy. Terrance Williams 70 C Jr. Team Illinois A top notch prospect with a lot of potential. Terrance had some nice blocked shots and a nice dunk in the game we watched. He showed a lot of athleticism and has the potential to be a high level recruit if his skills and amount of aggression improves. Attends Edwardsville High School.
