MidStateHoops.com 2006-2007 Class A All-State Team by Pat Benninger March 12, 2006
There are many top players in Class A basketball. However, eight players stood among all others this season. Here is MidStateHoops.com's 2006-2007 Class A All-State.
|
Robert Kreps 6'1" / 175 Class of 2007
Position: 1
Maroa-Forsyth St. Louis Falcons
|
2006-2007 Class A All-State (Player of the Year)
Kreps averaged 24.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 4.1 apg while leading his team to a Class A state title. He posted big numbers throughout the season, including a 6-game stretch where he averaged nearly 38 points per game. An appendectomy kept him out of the Super Sectional, but he came back strong in the state tournament scoring 18 and 27 in his final two high school games. "Robo", as he is nicknamed, earned the honor of being MidStateHoops.com's Class A player of the year.

2006-2007 Class A All-State
Our Preseason Player of the Year did what we expected him to do but fell a little short of the Class A title. He was the most dominant player in Class A ball this season. Fay averaged 23.5 ppg and 12 rpg while leading his team to the Class A state tournament. Unfortunately, in the quarterfinals, Fay went out with an injury late in the game. Though his team had the lead, by the time he returned they lost it and were unable to get it back, therefore falling to eventual runner-up, Chicago North Lawndale. If he would have stayed healthy, who knows if Maroa would still be the Class A champions?

Carlton Fay 6'8" / 235 Class of 2007
Position: 4
Putnam County Illinois Wolves
|

2006-2007 Class A All-State
O'Rear came into this season with a different mindset than last season and it paid off. The 6'7" monster led his team back to the state finals averaging 19 points and 10.6 rebounds. The Hornets went undefeated throughout the regular season and throughout most of the post season winning 33 straight games only to lose to Teutopolis in the quarterfinals by a very narrow margin. Lucas made a very good case for this season's Player of the Year.

Lucas O'Rear 6'7" / 225 Class of 2007
Position: 4
Nashville Midwest Storm
|
|
|
Michael Tisdale 7'1" / 210 Class of 2007
Position: 5
Riverton St. Louis Eagles
|
2006-2007 Class A All-State
Averaged nearly 30 points and 15 boards on the season, along with 5.6 blocks. Tisdale missed seven games during the season due to an injured hand but returned just as dominant as he was before. Not many people were able to guard the 7 footer. He and his team ended up being defeated by 5'10" all-stater Travis Rosenkranz and the Hawks of Macon Meridian.

|
Travis Rosenkranz 5'10" / 160 Class of 2007
Position: 1
Macon Meridian St. Louis Eagles
|
2006-2007 Class A All-State
Rosenkranz has probably been the state's most underrated guard since his freshman season. He's been staring at Macon Meridian since he was 15 years old and never received the respect he deserved. He's a true sleeper. The sub six foot guard averaged 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for a Sectional Championship bound Macon Meridian. The better the competition, the better he performed, as evident by these nuumbers: 35 points vs. Bloomington Central Catholic, 36 points vs. Riverton, and 37 points vs. Maroa-Forsyth. Travis is certainly a Division I caliber point guard.
Considering: Illinois (preferred walk-on), Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin, and University of Chicago
|
2006-2007 Class A All-State
Averaged 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists for a very talented Central Catholic team this season. Dunson didn't have the best numbers out of the state's top players but he was certainly a clutch performer who had the ball when his team needed to be rescued. The 6'2" high flyer and his team were put out early in the sectional by Eureka, a team they had beaten twice in conference play.
Verbally Committed: UT-Chattanooga

Brandon Dunson 6'2" / 165 Class of 2007
Position: 2
Bloomington Central Catholic Team Illinois
|
|
|
Eric Hobbie 6'6" / 195 Class of 2007
Position: 4/3
Vandalia Team Illinois
|
2006-2007 Class A All-State
The 2006 King of the Hill Dunk Contest Champion averaged 23 points and 13 rebounds this season. Hobbie is one of the few players in the history of the state to total over 2000 points and 1000 rebounds on his career. The high flying act was very good this season and very underrated on the state-wide level. The Vandals were eliminated early by the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis but Eric left a legacy in Vandalia that won't soon be forgotten.
Verbally Committed: McKendree College

|
Jereme Richmond 6'6" / 180 Class of 2010
Position: 3
North Shore County Day Rising Stars
|
2006-2007 Class A All-State
No one throughout the state in any Division put up the numbers Richmond did this season. The baby faced freshman averaged 32 points and 14 rebounds in his varsity debut. He lived up to his hype and will certainly be one to follow as his career progresses. Competition will be the questioning factor in Jereme's career as his school doesn't play the strongest schedule but no one can claim he didn't perform well this season.
