Riggs Gets First Offer
by Pat Benninger
October 13, 2007

Over the course of the last few months, the majority of the elite class of 2009 guards have been garnering scholarship offers left and right.  D.J. Richardson, Brandon Paul, and Joseph Bertrand all recently committed to Illinois...James Kinney received an offer from North Dakota State...Chris Colvin received two Big Ten offers...Xavier Humphrey has seven offers...finally, D'mitri Riggs, one of the state's most talented juniors has received his first offer.

Riggs, a 6'3" combo guard, received an offer from Illinois State University this past Thursday after an unofficial on the campus.  Redbirds coach Tim Jankovich has been excellent at developing pro guards and is hoping to get the steal and possibly groom D'mitri as he's done his past recruits.

Plenty of schools have shown interest in the Bloomington HS junior but none have offered.  Dayton is expected to visit and evaluate D'mitri this upcoming week while an unofficial to Loyola-Chicago is set for next weekend.  There's a possiblity that both may offer the scoring guard.  Other schools that are heavy on Riggs are Indiana, IowaPurdue, Southern Illinoisand Wright State.  He has already taken an unofficial to Lafayette, Indiana to visit with Matt Painter and the Boilermakers.

Expect a breakout season for D'mitri this year.  He has played backup to Southern Illinois freshman Justin Bocot for the past two seasons and it is finally his time to shine.  He is expected to be one of the top players in a very talented Big 12 conference this season.
