Simeon's Most Underappreciated Gem
by Pat Benninger
February 3, 2008

A couple decades back, Chicago Simeon produced a high flyer and a shooter that would eventually star in college for the Illini and in the NBA for Orlando Magic.  Nick Anderson was a great player, one of the best to ever hail from Chicago, and now he's passing the torch onto his son, Josh Anderson.

Josh is a 6'1" senior at Simeon.  He is the starting shooting guard for the Wolverines and probably the most overlooked kid on their team.  However, even with the crop of talent around him, he's still managing to put up good numbers.

"I'm averaging 10.1 ppg and 3.3 apg," stated Anderson.  "Our record is 19-2."

Being the son of an NBA player has definitely motivated Josh.

"My dad has been a big influence on me, watching him in the NBA and listening to him telling me about the stages he went through to get where he is now. In the offseason, I'm really going to work on my ballhandling and strength. I'm pretty strong on this level but I know I have to get stronger for the next level."

Already, Simeon has a senior signed with Illinois State and another signed with University of Illinois.  In addition, they have a junior already committed to Northern Illinois.  As far as recruiting for Anderson goes, let's just say welcome their third Division I recruit.

"IPFW is recruiting me the hardest and they offered.  Grambling State is recruiting me hard and has offered.  UIC (Illinois-Chicago) is recruiting me really hard and could be looking at offering next week.  Duquesne University has medium interest, Columbia University has medium interest, and Iowa, Rutgers, and Villanova have shown interest too."

As far as a favorite?

"I'm really loving IPFW, I just haven't been on a visit yet."

There are a few things that Josh will take into consideration when selecting a school.

"The main factors in choosing a school is feeling wanted at my position and me being at an up and coming program because I'm a winner.  I'm not big on major minutes as soon as I come in, but I do want to play."

Whoever ends up landing the underrated guard will get someone special.
