Stewart Adding Interest to Offers
Their record may not be perfect but the 14-6 Maroons of Champaign Central have played some of the stiffest competition all across the nation. Whose been their guys? Simple. A pair of 6'5" perimeter players: Verdell Jones and Donald Stewart. Jones gets the majority of the hype, however, Stewart has played just as big of role in their success. Donald, who weighs in at 185 lbs, is currently averaging 16.3 points, 6 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.4 assists for the Maroons. He is, both, their second leading scorer and second leading rebounder. Early on in the course of the year, he picked up 12 scholarship offers: Drake, Eastern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana State, IPFW, Loyola-Chicago, Missouri-Kansas City, Morehead State, SIU-Edwardsville, Tennessee Tech, Valparaiso, and Youngstown State. However, since his stellar play began this season, a lot of high majors and high mid majors have stepped into the game. "Gonzaga, Baylor, Arkansas," started Stewart, "Penn State, Michigan, Illinois State, Wyoming, and Wichita State are all recruiting me now very hard now." As far as a time table for a decision goes? "I'm going to commit next month. I take my ACT Saturday and a lot of coaches are waiting on that (to offer)." Two of Donald's former AAU coaches, Verdell Jones, Jr. (Ft. Sooy-No Limit) and Arthur Culver (Team Illinois) will be helping him with his decision. Ducky has not declared a favorite school simply because "I like all of them."
