You Haven't Heard of Me, But You Will by Pat Benninger July 6, 2008
Kyle Clevenger,
6-foot-5, 190 lbs, Shooting Guard, Urbana, Illinois Elite, Class of 2010
A
long and sizey wing. Clevenger has high
major athleticism. He runs, rebounds,
and is a good shot blocker. He plays
very hard and very aggressive on both ends of the floor. He shoots the 3-ball very well and can also
get to the rim. He defends well and is
rough around the edges but has great potential as a shooting guard at the next
level. He is a lot like 3-Star Evansville
recruit Denver Holmes.
Brad Hallstein,
6-foot-8, 220 lbs, Power Forward, Normal West, Team Illinois, Class of 2010
Hallstein
is a very big post player with good strength.
He is a very good rebounder, a good shot blocker, and scores well off
put back rebounds. He has a soft touch
from 3 and is a very accurate shooter.
He will need to become more aggressive but that should come with time.
Nathan Haynes, 6-foot-5,
200 lbs, Forward, Normal, Team Illinois, Class of 2010
Haynes
is one of those undersized players that you just love to root for. He’s very, aggressive, skilled, and truly
plays with a chip on his shoulder. At 6’5”,
he has the ability to beat you inside and out as he is very good around the rim
(footwork and finishing) and he can knock down the 3. He’s a great rebounder, is good at getting
positioning, and is a leader on the floor.
His father, who is also his AAU coach, was a star at Davidson and was
drafted to the NBA in the early 80s. Haynes
is likely to grow more which will enhance his stock big time!
Jeff Johnson,
6-foot-8, 220 lbs, Power Forward, Champaign Centennial, Illinois Elite, Class of 2010
Johnson
is a skilled power forward that shoots it well from the three and is also very
solid on the block. The rising junior is
a great passer from the top of the key, rebounds and blocks shots, runs the
floor well, has good strength, and finishes around the basket using a nice
array of post maneuvers.
Josh Piper, 6-foot-7,
180 lbs, Power Forward, Champaign Centennial, Illinois Elite, Class of 2011
He’s
young and that’s obvious but with his size and ability to run the floor, Piper’s
potential just screams out at you. He’s
long and thin but has the ability to finish around the rim. He rebounds well and is eager to help his
team. He will need to play with more
aggressiveness but in a class with few true post players, his size will count
for a lot.
Brock Von Nordeck,
6-foot-9, 215 lbs, Power Forward, Decatur Eisenhower, Indiana Elite-LNO, Class of 2009
The
talk about Eisenhower is that Jarod Oldham will be the team but let us be the
first to tell you, he will not be alone.
Von Nordeck was sixth man last season but will be one of the team’s
focal point this year. He’s gotten a lot
stronger and has improved his shooting range.
He is learning to play with better aggressiveness and more of a physical
disposition which will help sparkplug him to the top of his class for his
position. He rebounds well, can run the
floor, block shots, and finish around the rim.
