Player Focus: Corey Aken by Pat Benninger August 15, 2006
Bloomington-Normal
has been a great place to find some of the state’s top talent in the last five
years. From former players, like Tom
Holland, Dodie Dunson, and Brandon Holtz to current players, such as, Justin
Bocot, Brandon Dunson, and D’mitri Riggs, they have produced a lot of players. Today, we are bringing you another top player
from their area. His name is Corey Aken.
Aken is a 6’1” 165 lbs point guard. He’s
a member of the class of 2007 and attends Normal Community West High
School.
Corey is a very athletic point guard with good skills. He has a quick crossover and is good at
picking seems in the defense to penetrate through. He is a good defender and a hard worker that
has put in a lot of work over the summer in improving all aspects of his game,
mainly, his jumpshot.
This winter, look for Aken to be the key player for a tough Wildcats team. He has been starting varsity since his
sophomore year and is looking for a breakout senior campaign.
We feel he can certainly play at the Division One level with the right
exposure. Not many schools have
expressed interest but we are sure he will garner attention this season.
