Re-Introducing Mikel Brigham
No need for a Player Focus...he's nothing new to MidStateHoops.com so his dominant performances aren't surprising. We introduced him in 2006 but if you weren't paying attention, he might be new news for you. So today we're going to re-introduce you to Mikel Brigham. Brigham is a 6'6" 195 lbs forward from Danville, Illinois. The athletic junior averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds this season and was a first team Big 12 competitor. Mikel is very active and athletic. He's a great rebounder and brings a lot of energy to the floor. He's a great shot blocker and finishes well in transition. Also, he's beginning to improve his midrange jumpshot. His athleticism was on full display this past weekend at Flash's Hoops Review. His length, energy, and athleticism allowed him to be dominant on both ends of the floor. He's was completely unstoppable! But don't let those who are just now noticing him fool you in thinking that he's "undiscovered". We've been informing about him since 2006 and have reported on him even as late as last week! So far this season, Mikel has competed with Illinois Elite and Illinois Stars but claims himself to be a full fledge member of the Team Illinois AAU Basketball program and their coaching staff has nothing but great things to say about him. "Mike has always been a player," stated Team Illinois coach Dodie Dunson. "He's been playing with us since his freshman year and his growth as a player has been evident. We're helping him to improve his ball handling and extend his shooting range and by the end of the summer, he will have college coaches all over him." MidStateHoops.com first noticed Brigham in his freshman season with Team Illinois, playing alongside D'mitri Riggs (Bloomington) and Jordan Prosser (Eureka). Mikel is a highly recruited football prospect and has garnered recruiting interest from Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin but his love for hoops may outlast the temptation of being a Big Ten football competitor. Look for Brigham to be a dominant competitor on the AAU circuit with Team Illinois this summer playing alongside James Kinney, D'mitri Riggs, and Eddie Bowling.
